At its recent 2025 EV Day event held in Spain, the automaker introduced two significant additions to its electric lineup: the EV4 sedan and hatchback, along with the striking EV2 urban SUV concept. The EV4 stands as Kia’s answer to the growing demand for electric vehicles that do not compromise on affordability or style. With starting prices around €37,000 (approximately $38,500), Kia aims to make the EV4 accessible to a broader audience, competing directly with other mass-market electric vehicles, including the Tesla Model 3. The EV4 comes in two appealing variants: a traditional four-door sedan boasting a sleek rear design and a sporty five-door hatchback tailored primarily for the European market.

While the EV4 may not be the top performer in Kia’s lineup—featuring a single-motor front-wheel drive system with a maximum output of 150 kW and a 0-62 mph time of 7.4 seconds—it does emphasize practicality and efficiency. The vehicle rides on a cost-effective 400-volt E-GMP platform, differing from the high-performance 800-volt tech utilized in models like the EV6. Nevertheless, Kia ensures that the EV4 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in a mere 31 minutes, showcasing a commitment to convenience for everyday users.

Battery Life and Technology: Redefining Daily Commutes

A significant draw for prospective buyers will surely be the EV4’s impressive battery range. Kia claims an impressive 630 km (around 391 miles) on a single charge with its larger 81.4 kWh battery, while the smaller 58.3 kWh variant promises about 430 km (approximately 267 miles). However, it’s essential to consider that these figures stem from Europe’s WLTP standards, which tend to be more forgiving than EPA estimates.

Technology is another area where the EV4 shines. The car is equipped with a remarkable 30-inch widescreen display composed of three integrated screens, leveraging Kia’s cutting-edge “connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC)” software. Features such as streaming services like Netflix and YouTube add to the vehicle’s entertainment suite. Notably, the car also includes innovative utilities such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing users to power household devices, and an AI voice assistant for intuitive interaction.

The EV2 concept introduces a fresh perspective on urban mobility—compact and efficient. Kia aims to position this vehicle as its “smallest EV yet.” Designed with the metropolitan consumer in mind, the EV2 emphasizes versatility in its seating configuration to maximize space, making it ideal for both casual transportation and hauling cargo. Other exciting features like removable portable speakers for tailgating highlight a focus on lifestyle integration, evolving the driving experience beyond mere transportation.

The EV2, anticipated to roll out in 2026, further underscores Kia’s intent to cater to diverse market needs—from budget-conscious urban dwellers to more performance-oriented drivers who may lean towards the EV4.

Production and Market Availability: A Global Reach

The production timeline for the new models reflects strategic planning on Kia’s part. The EV4 sedan is set to launch in South Korea in March, while the hatchback version will be manufactured in Slovakia, with European sales commencing in the latter half of 2024. This distinction in production locations showcases how Kia plans to streamline its operations and cater to regional preferences. Meanwhile, details regarding the EV2’s market availability in the U.S. are yet to be confirmed.

President Ho Sung Song also indicated that Kia plans an initial production run of 160,000 units of the EV4, with a significant portion earmarked for North America.
